Nintendo’s Japanese support channel tweeted this week that Switch owners should watch out for condensation and completely power off the console – not put it into sleep mode – should the problem occur. It’s unclear why Nintendo only recently issued the warning as the Switch approaches its sixth birthday. The company says to watch for water droplets, as rapid temperature changes in the surrounding environment could damage the console. The tweet includes art depicting water droplets on a Switch’s screen, but Nintendo doesn’t specify whether it’s worried about moisture on top of the screen getting inside the system, or the air inside the Switch condensing into water droplets....
On Wednesday, a Twitter user going by Underfox revealed an interesting-looking patent recently awarded to Intel. Underfox suspects the patent may be related to Intel’s Ocean Cove CPU architecture, which is expected to be the successor of the Golden Cove architecture used in the performance cores of 12th generation Alder Lake processor designs. More importantly, a superficial inspection reveals it contains blocks of text and diagrams that look strikingly similar to those used to describe AMD’s Zen processor architecture during a presentation at the Hot Chips 28 event in 2016....

However, Hello Games dropped an expedition on Wednesday, somewhat breaking that mold. It offers a twist on gameplay that makes it somewhat Roguelike while also offering a unique reward for your frigate fleet. Expedition Seven: Leviathan plays much differently than in previous expeditions. It still has a lore-filled story to follow and the hunt-and-fetch missions that we’re used to but turns the difficulty up to survival mode settings. You will die, and when you do, you have to start over from scratch with a new randomized loadout....
Data speeds can vary based on where AT&T’s LTE and HSPA+ network has been deployed. In the suburbs of Miami, I received 3 to 5 Mbps downloads and as much as 6 Mbps upload. Those speeds were a significant drop from the 14 Mbps downloads and as much as 8 Mbps uploads I experienced while in San Francisco. The GTX 1050 averaged 47fps in Star Wars: Battlefront, topping the RX 460 by 12%, and the GTX 1050 Ti was another 11% faster, beating the GTX 960 while being only 9% slower than the R9 380. The GTX 1050 Ti was 15% faster than the GTX 1050 in Ashes of the Singularity when comparing the DX11 performance and 19% faster when using DX12. Even when using DX12 the GTX 1050 was still faster than the RX 460, albeit by a single frame....
When testing Deus Ex: Human Revolution, our overclock allowed for 11% more performance than a standard GTX 660 and 7% more than Gigabyte’s overclocked GTX 660. Our overclock yeilded 9% more performance in Crysis 2 at 1920x1200, a 6% increase over Gigabyte’s factory overclock. In Max Payne 3, our custom clock settings produced 15% more performance than Nvidia’s default specification and 8% more than Gigabyte’s overclock.
The GTX 660 Ti produced 56fps when testing Alan Wake at 1920x1200, a 17% jump over the HD 7870 and 2% over the 7950, while it was only 8% slower than the GTX 670. The GTX 660 Ti rendered an average of 32fps when running King Arthur II at 1920x1200 and although the overclocked Gigabyte card couldn’t improve this figure, both configurations were still 10% faster than the HD 7870 and 7% faster than the 7950....

As an “RTX 2080” part, this discrete GPU is using a Turing die complete with 2944 CUDA cores, 368 Tensor cores and 46 ray tracing cores. But that’s where the similarities between the RTX 2080 Max-Q and the desktop RTX 2080 end. To bring what is normally a 215W GPU down into the 80W range for slim and light laptops, Nvidia has had to significantly underclock the GPU, with the base clock now sitting at just 735 MHz compared to 1515 MHz, while the boost clock hits 1095 MHz....
In order for Windows installer to detect the RevoDrive Hybrid, you must supply the correct drivers, which can be downloaded through OCZ’s site and loaded onto a USB drive. This is a bit of an inconvenience but it ensures you’ll always have the latest driver when installing Windows on the RevoDrive Hybrid. Be aware that when installing Windows – Windows 7 in our case – the installation takes a while because of the slow 5400RPM drive....
Based on this observations we were thrilled to see how the RevoDrive X2 240GB would do in our real world tests, but we were quickly let down. The performance was just average compared to the current SSD leaders, setting no new records. The synthetic benchmarks then provided jaw-dropping numbers again, and we noticed something interesting about the Atto Disk benchmark results. While the RevoDrive X2 240GB managed to produce the amazing 700MB/s+ read and write performance when working with 128K files, smaller 1K, 2K and 8K tests provided no performance advantages over a single Vertex 2 Pro SSD....
On Monday, in-development emulators for the Game Boy and GBA leaked on 4chan. According to Twitter users Trash Bandatcoot and Oatmeal Dome, both were retrieved from Switch consoles and were developed by Nintendo Europe Research & Development. Last September, news circulated that Game Boy and Game Boy Color games were coming to Nintendo Online. However, nothing came of those reports until this week. The leak names over two dozen games in testing on Sloop, the GBA emulator....
It’ll soon be time for NBC’s Peacock streaming service to see if one of its early investments pays off. In the summer of 2020, several streaming services including Netflix and HBO Max were reportedly vying for the opportunity to land the rights to a gritty remake of 90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Peacock ultimately won the bidding war and a two-season deal, the first of which is set to premiere next month....
Moving to 1440p, gamers will require a Vega 64 or GTX 1070 Ti graphics card for an average of 60fps. Here we see massive performance gains from the Titan X and GTX 1080 Ti as they rendered around 40% more frames on average. That said, when looking at the 1% low figures the margin was well under 20%, so that’s obviously a lot less impressive. It’s worth noting that not a single previous generation GPU can deliver 60fps on average – not even the Titan X, so that’s pretty shocking....
Is Popcorn Time dead? Although Popcorn Time was presumed dead by early 2022, many months later and the service is still up and running. The original story hit when one of the various forks closed shop, supposedly stopping Popcorn’s development. But as an open source P2P project, there are several forks whose activity never stopped and remain up to date with the latest TV and movie releases. Popcorn Time is somewhat of a software hydra and even though it’s not as popular as it once was, there seems to be more than one group willing to pick up the pace where others had lost interest....
