While the 3D performance has been greatly improved with the Pentium N3700 delivering 20% more performance in Company of Heroes 2 at 1280x800, that equates to just one extra frame per second. It’s unsurprising then that the Pentium N3700 is still considerably slower than the AMD Sempron 3850. The gains in Metro: Last Light were huge as the Pentium N3700 delivered 77% more performance at 1280x800, making it slightly faster than the AMD A4-4000 and Athlon 5350....

The 10600K is arguably the most compelling of the 10th-gen unlocked desktop parts. First, it’s the most affordable of the bunch, set to retail for $262. Second, if you look at the spec sheet, it’s basically a Core i7-8700K, which not only was an amazing flagship processor in its heyday, but it was still being sold for about $360 before this release, so that’s a 22% discount right there....

The i7-3720QM took 6.27 seconds to complete the Excel workload, 35% slower than the i7-3770K and i7-2600K, yet comparable to the i7-920 and i5-2500K. The i7-3720QM took 120 seconds to complete the 700MB custom WinRAR workload, which is basically on par with the i7-920 and 12% faster than the AMD FX-8150. The i7-3720QM was disappointingly slow in the Adobe Photoshop CS5 benchmark, taking 30.1 seconds to complete the radial blur test....

The Core i7-5775C was 13% slower than the i7-4790K when testing with HandBrake as it managed 305.7fps, whereas the Haswell i7 managed 354.4fps. This time the Core i7-5775C was 19% slower than the i7-4790K, rendering just 2.06fps. When running the x264 HD Benchmark the Core i7-5775C was 15% slower than the i7-4790K in the second pass test and 14% slower for the first pass. Again the Core i7-5775C was 15% slower than the Core i7-4790K, as it took 615 seconds to complete the workload opposed to the 536 seconds it took the i7-4790K....

The culprit for this huge data loss was a faulty script originally meant to delete old, unnecessary log files from Kyoto university’s Cray/HPE supercomputer as part of a software update. However, it ended up deleting a massive 77TB of research data between Dec 14 and Dec 16, 2021, from the computer’s high-capacity /LARGE0 backup disc. The university initially estimated losing up to 100TB of data after the buggy update wiped nearly all files older than 10 days....

In a statement (via Tom’s Hardware), Kioxia said that operations were halted at its Yokkaichi and Kitakami plants due to a component containing impurities involved in the production of BiCS 3D NAND flash memory, used in a range of SSDs and other products. The company added that it hoped for “early recovery to normal operation.” Western Digital’s statement is the one to reveal that 6.5-exabyte figure. It adds that the company is moving to implement necessary measures that will restore the facilities to normal operational status as quickly as possible....

The recent criticism by GT7 players isn’t a result of poorly designed visuals, control, or game physics. On the contrary, most would say GT7 is as polished as one would expect, delivering eye-catching graphics, sound, and a level of control that lets players feel like they’re in the driver’s seat. Instead, the low-ranking user scores continue to pile up due to Sony’s latest patch, which increased reliance on microtransactions and significantly ramped up the difficulty to earn credits in the game....

Across our suite of battery benchmarks, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon performs extremely well. Topping the charts in our Wi-Fi test is a particularly impressive feat, and illustrates just how well suited this laptop is to typical work use cases. 7 hours of life in the Wi-Fi browsing benchmark equates to well over 10 hours of normal use, which is a fantastic result. Lenovo does state the X1 Carbon is good for 15....

While the 29EA93 seems suitably equipped to watch movies, how does it fare against other types of computer use? Could it possibly be a worthy replacement for your trusty dual-monitor setup? Does the display’s quality, features and novelty justify its $699 street price? Those are some of the questions I’ll be exploring. When 4:3 displays (e.g. 1600 x 1200) gave way to 16:10 screens (e.g. 1920 x 1200), the event was schismatic in terms of consumer preference....

The company has lifted their game significantly this year with the all-new LG G6. The modular concept is gone, replaced by a traditional phone design with a collection of high-end hardware. Like the Galaxy S8, LG has extended the display to cover almost the entire front panel, bringing a new aspect ratio into the mix. The removable battery has been ditched, making way for a larger internal cell, while the dual rear camera setup has been upgraded with new sensors....

With the proliferation smartphones and tablets, the N2A2 is able to stream information and media directly to portable devices. This means that the N2A2 lets users go beyond the storage limitations of handheld devices and gain access to videos, music and presentations via the Internet. Although the LG N2A2’s software is not nearly as powerful as the much pricier Synology and QNAP devices, it still provides a surprising amount of features....

Starting with the good stuff, the V30 is LG’s most attractive design yet. The display is enormous and occupies essentially all the front panel, without awkward notches. The rest of the build is premium, using a mix of metal and glass. It’s comfortable to hold, if a bit slippery, but it looks great from every angle. Plus you get features like a headphone jack, water resistance and microSD expansion all in the one package....

Being as happy as I am with the Performance MX, I have found it hard to adopt other mice. The closest I have come is the Logitech G700s, as it has a similar shape and feel but with a much faster 8200 DPI sensor. The G700s is also wireless, which I love despite the fact that it needs to be recharged on a regular basis. The G502 is significantly different to both my preferred models....

Without a dedicated PhysX card even the GeForce GTX 480 gets crushed at 1680x1050, dropping from 70fps with PhysX disabled to just 42fps with it enabled, a 40% performance reduction. At that rate the game was still very playable at this resolution. The GeForce GTX 470 was able to deliver playable performance as well with 38fps. Even the GeForce GTX 460 broke the 30fps barrier with an average of 33fps, while the GeForce GTX 285 managed 30fps....

A report from IT analyst firm Dell’Oro Group suggests that supply constraints are holding back Wi-Fi 6E. On top of that, Wi-Fi 7 is expected to arrive next year, so Wi-Fi 6E may end up having a very limited lifespan. Released in the middle of 2021, Wi-Fi 6E is a label to signify devices that bring all the advantages of Wi-Fi 6—a wider range of frequencies, higher throughput, and lower latency—to the new 6 GHz spectrum....

Bumping the resolution up to 1920x1200 requires at least an HD 5830 or HD 7770 for optimal 60fps+ performance, though you should be able to get by fine with an HD 6790 or GTX 550 Ti. Virtually any halfway competent mid-range card will do the trick, with the GTX 560 and HD 6870 exceeding 80fps.

We used the AMD FX-8150 for our CPU scaling test and as shown above, performance continued to improve as we pushed the chip up to 4.5GHz alongside the HD 7970. Once we dip below 3.5GHz, the frame rate starts to dip quickly until we end up with “only” 62fps at 2.5GHz – still perfectly playable, of course. The Core i7-3960X unsurprisingly topped our CPU graph, followed by the i7-2600K and i5-2500K....

Update (9/19): Most of the leaked content has been removed from numerous online platforms following copyright takedown requests issued by Take-Two Interactive. A zip file was posted to the GTAForums around five hours ago (at the time of writing) with the message, “Here are 90 footage/clips from GTA 6. Its possible i could leak more data soon, GTA 5 and 6 source code and assets, GTA 6 testing build.” One would usually expect a link such as this to lead to some scammy malware download, but no, it really is a slew of alleged clips from the in-development game....

The 10-point multi-touch screen is coated in Corning Gorilla Glass (Glass 3 on systems with Alcantara keyboard finishes or Glass 5 on machines with metal keyboard finishes). The larger 15-inch model sports a resolution of 2,496 x 1,664 (201 PPI), a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 1300:1 contrast ratio. Like its little brother, it also employs a 10-point multi-touch panel but all models get the Gorilla Glass 5 treatment. A 12th-gen Intel Core i7-1255U powers both laptops although the smaller can be configured with a Core i5-1235U if you don’t need as much horsepower or want to save some cash at checkout....

Microsoft started selling Windows 11 licenses on its store within the last few weeks without telling anyone. Windows 11 Home and Pro versions cost the same as Windows 10 licenses, but this can remove a step for many users looking to quickly install Windows 11. PCMag only discovered the Windows 11 store pages recently, but it’s estimated this happened sometime in May. Windows 11 Home and Pro digital licenses cost $139 and $199, respectively....
