From November, Office.com will redirect to Microsoft365.com complete with a new icon, a new look and fresh features. The Office mobile app and the Office app on Windows will get the same treatment starting in January 2023, and they’ll apply to everyone that uses Office apps for work, school or personal use. Microsoft said the transition to Microsoft 365 branding will not impact existing accounts, profiles, subscriptions or files. The changes will happen automatically, we’re told....

According to Activision, the blockbuster crossed $1 billion in worldwide sell-through in its first 10 days. The previous Call of Duty franchise record-holder, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, needed 15 days to cross the milestone back in 2012. In announcing the achievement, Activision said player engagement continues to trend north. In the first 10 days, MW II players logged more than 200 million hours and played more than a billion matches across Xbox, PlayStation and PC....

Correction (11/17/22): Samsung reached out to TechSpot to clarify some miscommunications that occurred in its press release. A spokesperson said that the 2021 listed models would not be getting the Samsung Gaming Hub interface. Those TVs will only have access to the game-streaming apps listed. Additionally, the firmware updates will not begin rolling out until next week, not on Wednesday, as initially reported. The original story follows below: Starting on Wednesday and rolling out through the end of the year, Samsung is pushing over-the-air updates to select 2021 or later smart TVs....

Ten months out from the launch of the original Moto G, Motorola has unveiled a second-generation model alongside a new Moto X and the Moto 360 smartwatch. Rather than calling this device the ‘Moto G2’, it’s simply known as the Moto G. Naturally this is a tad confusing for people wanting to compare it to the previous model, so most of the time it’s being labelled as the second-generation or 2014 Moto G....

Starting with the Moto G5, we’re looking at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC. In some ways, this is a sideways shift, as the Moto G4 packed a Snapdragon 617 SoC. Both SoCs are octa-core models using ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores: the S430 has all eight clocked at 1.4 GHz; while the S617 is split into a 1.5 GHz quad-core cluster, and a 1.2 GHz quad-core cluster. Memory bandwidth is slightly reduced moving from the S617 to S430, while the Adreno 505 GPU in the S430 is a very minor downgrade relative to the Adreno 405 in the S617....

The most surprising aspect to the Moto X Style is its camera, where Motorola has really exceeded expectations. The 21-megapixel rear camera produces some great images, and although it’s not as consistent as the superb Galaxy S6 and LG G4 shooters, the Style is more than capable as a camera for the everyday photographer. Throw in 4K video recording and a front-facing flash and the camera becomes a well-rounded package....

The Skylake Core i3 processors have developed a reputation for being excellent work horses. Be it productivity or play, processors such as the Core i3-6100 deliver, and the low-powered iteration inside the Cubi 2 is no different. Despite what is now considered a relatively low clock speed at just 3.2GHz, the 6100T looked mighty in the application and encoding benchmarks. I can only imagine how snappy Cubi 2 would be when equipped with the Core i5-6500T or i7-6700T....

The GTX 1060 is Nvidia’s latest upper mid-range discrete graphics chip that succeeds the aging GTX 970M. This isn’t just a minor upgrade, though: the GTX 1060 should significantly outperform the GTX 970M on paper, and narrowly beat the GTX 980M at a lower power cost and with a less beefy cooling solution. Packing a very similar spec sheet to the desktop GTX 1060, Nvidia is positioning the GPU as the perfect part for 1080p and even 1440p gaming....

MSI has pulled away from this trend with the GS43VR, which looks great thanks to a combination of brushed aluminium and subtle red highlights. I wish MSI had taken care of a few more details on this iteration, like the screen’s generous bezels which could have been trimmed down in favor of a larger display on the same footprint. The SteelSeries keyboard is solid with good travel distance and an excellent layout, which makes gaming on this device a pleasure....

HBO had previously only released an almost dialogue-free teaser for The Last of Us. The first official trailer shows more of Pedro Pascal’s Joel escorting Bella Ramsey’s Ellie west across the post-apocalyptic US as they search for a cure for the parasitic fungus known as Cordyceps Brain Infection, which Ellie is immune to. Any show based on a beloved video game franchise will always cause some trepidation among fans, especially after the awful Resident Evil Netflix series that was canceled after one very unpopular season....

Google released Android 13’s source code alongside the OS’s public launch for Pixel phones this week. Digging inside reveals a commit saying to move Tangor – the codename for Google’s upcoming Pixel tablet – to 64-bit only. The move would make it Google’s first device that only runs 64-bit apps. Another commit mentions an Android system that can’t run 32-bit apps, probably Android 14. Google mandated that all Play Store apps running native code have 64-bit versions in 2019....

Bowser had been a member of the Team Xecuter hacking group—the DOJ called him a “prominent leader”—that had been creating and selling Nintendo hacking devices since at least 2013. The tools allowed buyers to circumvent security measures, enabling them to play illegal ROMs on consoles/handhelds such as the Switch, 3DS, and Nintendo Wii. Bowser was arrested in 2020 along with fellow Team Xecuter member Max Louarn on 11 felony counts of piracy....

The standard GeForce GTS 450 averaged 21fps at 1680x1050 making it a single frame faster than the Radeon HD 5750 and 2fps slower than the Radeon HD 5770. The overclocked Palit GTS 450 averaged 24fps, or a single frame faster than the stock Radeon HD 5770. When compared to more expensive graphics cards such as the Radeon HD 5830 and GeForce GTX 460, the GeForce GTS 450 was 28% slower while the overclocked Palit version was 17% slower....

The MSI GTX 1050 2G OC and GTX 1050 Ti 4G OC have been fitted with some of the smallest heatsinks you’ll see on a gaming graphics card. Despite that, both of them run at very reasonable temperatures while generating very little noise. Impressive stuff and this is a testament to just how little power these graphics cards consume. The GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti used roughly the same amount of power in our Core i7 test machine and unsurprisingly both burned less power than anything previously tested....

Firing up Quantum Break we see the GTX 1080 Ti is able to match the Titan XP as expected. What’s interesting here is how much faster it is than the standard 1080, even at 1080p, 22% more performance at this resolution is quite surprising. Now at 1440p that margin is extended ever so slightly to 23% and again the Ti is still pushing over 100 fps. Finally at the 4K resolution the 1080 Ti is good for almost 60 fps on average using the ultra quality preset....

The GeForce GTX 480 vs. Radeon HD 5870 comparison certainly didn’t turn out as we were expecting, especially given what we had already seen in our original comparison, where the GeForce GTX 480 was on average 16% faster. Now with newer drivers we were expecting this margin to open up a little, further favoring the Nvidia graphics card. This was not to be as the margins appear to have been reduced instead....

Based on Fermi’s third-generation Streaming Multiprocessor (SM) architecture, the GeForce GTX 560 Ti boasts 384 CUDA cores, which is 15% more shader power than the GeForce GTX 460. There are also 64 TAU (Texture Addressing Units) units, the same number used by the GeForce GTX 580, while the ROP (Raster Operations) have been decreased from 48 to 32. Breaking it down, we have 2 Graphics Processing Clusters, 8 Streaming Multiprocessors, 384 CUDA Cores, 64 Texture Units and 32 Raster Operations Units....

The Tomb Raider performance at 2160p is exceptional as the GeForce GTX 980 Ti averaged 60fps, that said please note we are testing with TressFX disabled. The 1600p and 2160p margins were virtually identical as the GTX 980 Ti was 12% slower than the Titan X, but 28% faster than the GTX 980 and 67% faster than the Radeon R9 290X. Despite only using FXAA we find that Sleeping Dogs is still too demanding for a single GeForce GTX 980 Ti at 2160p as we saw an average of just 26fps....

The mobile RTX 3060 is using Nvidia’s GA106 silicon with 3840 unlocked CUDA cores, more than what you’ll find in the desktop equivalent. There are a range of power configurations that OEMs can use, anywhere from 60 to 115 watts, which brings with it a boost clock anywhere from 1283 MHz to 1703 MHz depending on the variant you get. Of course, one of the key talking points around this generation is Nvidia removing the “Max-Q” label, instead giving all configurations from the 60W model (previously Max-Q) up to 115W (Max-P) the same name, something we’re not big fans of....

With the RTX 3090 Ti graphics card, Nvidia squeezed the last bit of performance it could from the Ampere architecture by raising the power limit to 450 watts. Independent testing has also revealed the card is surprisingly efficient when the power limit is set to a more sane 300 watts. The next-generation Ada Lovelace architecture is still shrouded in mystery, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from turning hints about what to expect....
