A flaw in the Firefox browser has been marked as “resolved” just after coming of age. Bug 290125 was first opened 18 years ago when Mozilla developers discovered that the open source browser was handling the ::first-letter CSS pseudo-element incorrectly. As explained in the MDN web docs, the ::first-letter CSS pseudo-element “applies styles to the first letter of the first line of a block-level element, but only when not preceded by other content (such as images or inline tables)....

The World War II-themed multiplayer first-person shooter remains popular after 19 years, evidenced by Bethesda’s continuing support of the game. This week, id Software announced it has opened official dedicated servers for Splash Damage’s classic freeware shooter, ensuring fans will always have somewhere to enjoy matches under vanilla settings. There are four official servers: a US server in Texas, an European server in the Netherlands, an Australian server in Canberra, and a UK server in London....

During an earnings call yesterday, Netflix co-founder and co-CEO Reed Hastings said it is “quite open to offering even lower prices with advertising, as a consumer choice.” Back in March, following Disney Plus’ announcement that it would be introducing an ad-supported tier later this year, Netflix CFO Spencer Neumann said it wasn’t something in the company’s plans and that it didn’t “make sense” for Netflix to go down the same path many others are taking....

To be clear, Square Enix is regularly “disappointed” by the performance of their published works, even when said games actually performed very well. The publisher is known for having unreasonably high expectations for releases. Sadly, even with that in mind, Babylon’s Fall is not doing well. It might be faring better on console, but on Steam, it hit a pathetic 8 concurrent players during the evening of April 12. Since the title was only released on March 3, that’s not a great sign....

The overclocking performance of the GTX 1060 won’t be blowing any socks off but 12% more performance in Far Cry Primal allowed the GTX 1060 to match the R9 390X. We saw a 14% performance boost in Rise of the Tomb Raider as the GTX 1060 went from 58fps to 66fps, which was enough to jump well ahead of the Radeon R9 Nano. Testing with The Division we saw a 9% performance gain from our GTX 1060 overclock – not particularly impressive but that’s almost twice the gain seen from the RX 480 overclock....

The GeForce GTX 480 also performed nicely in Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X, with an average of 74fps at 2560x1600. This made it around 12% faster than the Radeon HD 5870, and was enough to match the performance of the 4870 X2.

According to the 3Dmark 11 performance test, the GeForce GTX 590 is actually 10% slower than the Radeon HD 6990 which is surprising given that the GTX 580 is faster than the HD 6970. It seems that Nvidia sucked a lot of life out of the GF110 by reducing the fixed functions clock frequency 21% per GPU.

When testing Just Cause 2 at 1920x1200, the GTX 660 Ti offered 56fps, 17% more frames than the HD 7870 and 8% more than the 7950. The GTX 660 Ti finished strong with an average of 62fps at 1920x1200 in Max Payne 3, besting the HD 7870 and 7950 by 9% and 2%, respectively.

This is said to boost core utilization and allows Maxwell to do more with less. According to Nvidia’s numbers, Maxwell increases the amount of peak performance per core by 35% compared to those in chips built on the previous-generation Kepler architecture. With fewer cores being used to get more performance, Maxwell naturally consumes less power and improves Kepler’s performance per watt. Maxwell brings other improvements as well, but that boost alone suggests that AMD’s Radeon R7 265 could be in trouble at today’s pricing considering it’s essentially a slightly overclocked and steeply discounted HD 7850....

BioShock Infinite was closely contested with just 1fps separating the new GPUs, but the R7 265 did enjoy a 3% advantage over the GTX 750 Ti as well as a 21% lead over the GTX 650 Ti and 11% on the HD 7850. Metro: Last Light is a GPU killer and here we see the GTX 750 Ti averaging just 28fps at 1920x1200 while the R7 265 fared slightly better at 31fps, 11% more performance....

When gaming at 2560x1600 in Crysis 3 the GTX Titan X rendered an impressive 51fps on average, 34% faster than the GTX 980 and 15% faster than the R9 290X, while it was just 7% slower than the R9 295X2. Jumping to 4K reduced the average frame rate to just 26fps, though if we were to disable anti-aliasing we would likely receive playable performance. Even so, with 26fps the GTX Titan X was 37% faster than the GTX 980 and 18% faster than the R9 290X while also being 24% slower than the R9 295X2....

The HD Tune Pro random write 512 bytes test provided some interesting results. The RevoDrive X2 was actually slower than the Samsung 470 Series 256GB, while it was 3.3 times faster than the Vertex 2 Pro 100GB. The random 1MB test put the RevoDrive X2 240GB back on top as it was 2.9 times quicker than the Vertex 2 Pro 100GB. This was also seen in the random file size test....

First we looked at the read performance of each drive using Atto Disk with a sample data range of 4KB through to 128KB. From 4KB to 16KB the OCZ Summit was the second fastest SSD, coming second only to the Intel X25-M. From 32KB to 128KB the Summit is beaten by the Vertex, making it the third fastest SSD tested.
