Here we see that Threadripper doesn’t look particularly impressive but it has to be said with over 100 fps at all times the game was incredibly smooth. Please note I’m not bothering with the gaming mode, resetting your workstation to play some games isn’t practical or realistic so we’re only testing the distributed memory mode. As for the 7960X and 7980XE, they do quite well despite trailing the lower core parts but that was pretty much to be expected....

When armed with a Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition graphics card the Core i7-4770K was able to match the performance of the i7-3770K when testing with Far Cry 3. We see little to no difference in performance between the Core i7-4770K and the i7-3770K when using a high-end discrete graphics card at high resolutions, this time when testing with Tomb Raider. Again, the Core i7-4770K is only slightly faster than the i7-3770K when measuring 3D gaming performance using a high-end graphics card....

Looking at Cinebench R15 we can see that in the multi-threaded test, the 8705G holds a decent 8 percent performance advantage over the 7700HQ, using its higher clocked cores to its advantage. In the single-threaded test it pushes this margin out to 13 percent, again thanks to better boost clocks. However it’s in the multithreaded test that the 6-core 8750H dominates as expected; with two extra cores, the Coffee Lake CPU is 46 percent faster....

Intel’s Pentium processors aren’t what you’d typically find in a gaming PC, but they are pretty common in business settings where the budget doesn’t allow for the purchase of more expensive computers. That said, overclocking enthusiasts also love to push Team Blue’s inexpensive low-end dual-core CPU to test its limits. Renowned overclocker Hicookie was able to take the Alder Lake-based Pentium Gold G7400T from its default 3.1 GHz base clock to a respectable 5....

HP G62t Despite being a member of HP’s budget-minded G60 family of laptops, the G62T slightly resembles the high-end Envy line in terms of appearance with a stylish matte finish. It also has basically everything you could want for the money – you get an Intel Core i3 or i5 processor, DVD burner, 320GB 7,200RPM hard drive, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 15.6-inch 1366x768 LED display. Some of this basic hardware specs are upgradable, including the integrated Intel HD graphics which you can replace with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5430 discrete GPU....

Even though Windows 8 has been out for some time now, it’s been only since late last year that we started to see 8-inch Windows tablets headed to market. The Miix 2 8 isn’t geared up for high performance tasks, nor does it have top-end features, but its use of an Intel Atom x86-capable processor and 1280 x 800 display present very decent value for the tablet’s $240 asking price (originally it was $300)....

The ThinkPad T510 is part of Lenovo’s classic T series which saw a complete refresh this January along with the popular W series laptops. Our T510 sample (model 4349-24U) came equipped with a dual core Arrandale chip also known as the Intel Core i7 620M that operates at 2.66GHz with 4MB of L3 cache....

Gone were the days of custom software installations, file system management and editing config files; in their places appeared one-click app store installs, locked down software hell-bent on shielding users from directory structures and an often times disappointingly spartan selection of customization and configuration options. Consider this though: Windows 8 Pro on a tablet challenges this mindset. Say what you will about Microsoft’s latest (and arguably not greatest) OS, but Redmond’s software gives users back much of the control and utility lost during the shift to Apple’s and Google’s mobile operating systems....

The layout of the Yoga 3 Pro’s keyboard is both good and bad. The space allocated to each key is perfectly adequate, so the keyboard doesn’t feel cramped when typing even though it’s smaller than a typical desktop or 15-inch laptop keyboard. The layout is also fairly standard, with a large and easy to hit spacebar, sizable left shift and enter keys, and full-sized arrow keys. In place of the right Windows key you get a dedicated print screen key, which can come in handy....

Realizing that was probably overkill, we decided to try something a bit more feasible, opting for the Gigabyte AM3 mATX board with the new Phenom II X6 1075T processor, and one Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 graphics card. The same procedure is followed no matter what you plan to install. You’ll have to remove both side panels exposing the internals and detaching the motherboard tray. With the right panel/motherboard tray removed, you can easily install the motherboard, RAM, CPU and cooler....

Just a quick note on this actually, I’m not generally a fan of manufacturers releasing phones with outdated software packages only to quickly update to the latest version a few months after launch. The difference with the Pro 6 Plus is that while this phone launched on November 30th and I received my review unit in December, it’s still not available to purchase by the public at the time of publishing this review (mid-January 2017)....

Bloomberg reports that shareholders approved Microsoft’s offer of $95 per share. The stock price had hit $82 following news of the acquisition, meaning anyone who bought then would have been guaranteed $13 per share profit when the deal completed. However, the current share price has fallen to around $77, suggesting investors aren’t confident the merger will be finalized. As reported back in February, the uncertainty stems from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) looking into the acquisition....

Despite those similarities, it’s fair to say both platforms are different and will likely capture separate markets. We believe Intel has the upper hand if you’re looking for a budget workhorse or high-end gaming rig, while AMD’s Fusion platform rests somewhere in-between. It delivers respectable system performance and it’s an acceptable solution for casual gamers or media buffs. HTPC users that don’t plan to run Crysis on max are probably best served by the A8-3850 or A6-3650....
