If there’s one thing the security community has been complaining about for years, it’s that most companies pay very little for vulnerability discoveries and even go as far as silently patching their software without giving credit to the people that reported the issues. The problem is severe enough that some security researchers have been exploring the idea of selling their work to zero-day brokers and other third parties to make ends meet....

The wording here is a bit confusing as it doesn’t explicitly say there will be a public preview of the feature, but a preview of how you can use Android apps in Windows 11. Panay touched on other inbound features including taskbar improvements such as call mute and unmute, easier window sharing, bringing weather information to the taskbar and redesigned versions of Notepad and Media Player. Windows 11 is off to a solid start, at least according to Microsoft....

According to a new report by Microsoft, Russian intelligence agencies have significantly increased the frequency of their cyberattacks against countries allied with Ukraine. Russian hackers are not only targeting government systems but also other sectors that might have valuable information related to the war, such as think tanks, businesses, and aid groups. The company has identified over 100 organizations from 42 countries outside Ukraine affected by these attacks. Over 60 percent of this activity reportedly involves NATO members, with the US being the primary target for Russian network intrusions....

We felt that same rush of excitement back in 2014, when Keiji Inafune announced he was going to make his own Mega Man game, Mighty No. 9. “Here’s The Mega Man Spiritual Successor You’ve Always Wanted,” our headline read. “It’s basically Mega Man with a new name,” we said, which sounded like a wonderful thing. Mighty No. 9 built up a rather massive store of excitement (and several million dollars in cash) during those first few months, but each delay, work-in-progress gameplay clip and rough beta test sapped enthusiasm for the project....

The Asrock A75M-ITX was slightly slower when using the A6-3650, but there’s little shame in dipping 7fps to an average of 82fps. Again, by comparison, the Core i7-2600K was only 9fps faster. Far Cry 2 shook things up as the Intel parts clearly dominated our graph. While the A8-3850 managed to match the Phenom II X6 1100T, it was still 19% (20 frames) slower than the Core i3-2120. That gap was largely closed in Dirt 3....

Lenovo announced several new ThinkPads at MWC 2022, and there’s a lot to unpack about them. There are a few additions to the T-series and P-series ThinkPad series, a new ThinkPad X1 Extreme with a 165 Hz display option, and a Snapdragon-powered ThinkPad. All the new models come equipped with 16:10 aspect ratio displays, which makes them better for productivity. Lenovo has also introduced a new ThinkVision M14d portable monitor that claims is the first to offer a 16:10 aspect ratio....

Intel shed more light on the successor to Thunderbolt 4 on Wednesday. Like USB4 2.0, the new standard offers a connection bandwidth of up to 80Gbps, while in some cases in can reach up to 120Gbps. Next-generation Thunderbolt – Intel hasn’t properly named it yet, so Thunderbolt 5 is not a given – supports bidirectional bandwidth up to 80GBps, which Intel first demonstrated in Israel last month. However, this week, the company also presented the new Thunderbolt’s ability to transmit at 120Gbps while receiving at 40Gbps....

Though I like the interface, there are still far too few options for manufacturers, carriers, or even consumers to customize a device. Sure we can set “Nokia Blue” or a handful of other colors as the accent color for tiles and links, but your background choices are limited to black or white. You can set a wallpaper for the lock screen, but not for the home screen or main menu....

Throughout my usage I found the Lumia 925’s battery life to be adequate, but not amazing. Like a few other Nokia phone’s I’ve used, it doesn’t seem to handle low-signal power-gaiting as well as I’d hoped, meaning power consumption can be higher when you’re in a low signal 3G or 4G area; an issue I haven’t experienced as much on Android phones. Also, the battery seems to be drained especially quickly while using GPS for things such as Here Drive, so watch out for that if you plan on doing a lot of navigation....

Alongside the new RTX 40 series GPUs, Nvidia also announced the third generation of its Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology, which can deliver up to four times the performance compared to rendering at native resolution. Nvidia introduced DLSS with its RTX 20 series cards four years ago, and it’s now available in over 200 games and apps. It improves performance by allowing frames to be rendered internally at a lower resolution and upscaling them using dedicated AI accelerators inside RTX GPUs, called Tensor cores....

Gamers prepared to spend between $200 and $250 on a graphics card essentially have the GTX 1060 or its rival RX 480 to choose between (and both are fine options), while those with less cash have even fewer options, until now that is. AMD’s RX 460 2GB presented itself as the best choice for around $110 and not long ago you wouldn’t have expected to find a Pascal card at this price point....

In Far Cry 2 the GeForce GTX 560 Ti beat the old GTX 470 by a 12% margin at 1920x1200, while it was about 9% slower than the GTX 570. This also made it 10% faster than the Radeon HD 6950 and 23% speedier than the HD 6870. Aliens vs. Predator We used the highly demanding DX11 benchmark from Aliens vs. Predator playing through a test scene in the same sequence every time for accurate results....

The GeForce GTX 980 Ti had no problem delivering playable performance at 2160p in the Civilization Beyond Earth late game test. With an average of 52fps the GTX 980 Ti was just 7% slower than the Titan X and 21% faster than the GTX 980. It was also 24% faster than the Radeon R9 290X. The GeForce GTX 980 Ti ran into a CPU bottleneck at 1600p, as did the Titan X and original GTX 980....

Our overclock was able to extract 16% more performance out of the GTX Titan X, taking the average frame rate at 2560x1600 from 82fps to 95fps. This time when testing with BioShock Infinite our overclock provided just 4% more performance which was disappointing. Finally, when testing how well our overclock boosted performance in Crysis 3, we found a 10% improvement in frame rate which was enough to overtake the R9 295X2....

Jon Peddie Research’s (JPR) latest report on the GPU industry is painful reading for all involved, especially Nvidia. The market has been experiencing falling demand this year following a surge in sales during the lockdowns, and the turbulent economy combined with rising inflation is making things worse. JPR found that there were 84 million GPU shipments in Q2, down 14.9% compared to Q1. Looking at the three GPU companies individually, AMD shipments were down -7....

Unlike almost every SSD we have reviewed in the past few years, the Arc 100 240GB is unable to max out the SATA 6Gb/s bus when measuring sequential read performance. Its 403MB/s read throughput was surprisingly low. The Arc 100 provided surprisingly slow sequential read performance at just 403MB/s and its sequential write performance was equally surprising, being faster than the read performance at 427MB/s. When measuring random 512K read performance, the Arc 100 240GB was again rather sluggish with just 345MB/s, 21% slower than the MX100 512GB....

The random 1MB results see the Intel X25-M fall behind the Enyo and Vertex 2 for both read and write tests. The Enyo is exceptionally fast with the supplied MCCI drivers, beating even the mighty Vertex 2. OCZ’s drive was many times faster than the Samsung Spinpoint F1, and provided amazing performance gains when compared to its USB 2.0 configuration. Our last HD Tach test incorporates a range of different file sizes to measure the random read and write performance of each device....

Once filled with data, the Vector 150 became around 10% slower in our large file copy test and we couldn’t restore that performance by optimizing the drive. This time we see a 16% drop in performance with the Vector 150 full, as its throughput went from 187.8MB/s to 161.7MB/s. The last copy test uses our game data and here we see a 22% reduction in performance with the drive full....

Once again when using HD Tune Pro we saw a significant difference in performance between the OCZ Vertex 2 Pro and Vertex LE. The Vertex LE still remained well ahead of the original Vertex drive, while it lead the Intel X25-M G2 when working with 1MB and 64KB files.

GPU benchmarks reveal performance in-line with other Snapdragon 820 devices. Compared to handsets with a 1440p display (like the HTC 10), the performance of the Adreno 530 at 1080p is around 60% better, so there is a notable advantage here to the OnePlus 3 and its lower-resolution display. The OnePlus 3 boasts graphics performance around 65% better than the OnePlus 2 and its Adreno 430 GPU. Again, compared to Snapdragon 801 handsets, performance in GPU-limited workloads is approximately 2....
