Max Payne 3 is the first game we tested where the GTX Titan managed to fend off Palit’s GTX 780 Super JetStream at 2560x1600, which was 3% slower than the Titan but still 15% quicker than the standard 780. When looking at the frame time data, the GTX 780 Super JetStream was still slower than the GTX Titan. Again, we see that the 780 Super JetStream SLI cards are much faster than the standard GTX 780s when testing with Max Payne 3, recording a 15% performance margin favoring Palit’s cards this time....

YouTube’s previous way of addressing toxic comments on YouTube was to warn people before a message was posted that it could potentially be abusive. The new feature goes a bit further, alerting users when YouTube has detected and removed some of their comments for violating its community guidelines. For those who ignore these warnings and continue to leave multiple abusive comments, YouTube could issue a timeout and suspend their ability to leave messages for 24 hours....

Gears of War 4 might be a DirectX 12 title but it was also sponsored by Nvidia, so take this DX12 performance with a grain of salt. Typically you would expect the Radeon GPUs to perform well in a DX12 title but here we see the RX 580 trailing the GTX 1060 by a 13% margin. Once again though we find the upgraded memory doesn’t help the GTX 1060 out....

At the Black Hat 2022 conference last month, enterprise security firm Binarly disclosed six tracked vulnerabilities in several HP product lines, including EliteBooks. In a blog post last week, it shared the details to the wider public. All the weaknesses involved a System Management Mode (SMM) memory corruption that opens the window for arbitrary code execution. These vulnerabilities allow an attacker to implant malware in a device’s firmware so that it can persist even after a fresh install of the operating system....

At its State of Play event, Sony showed off several teasers and trailers for upcoming PlayStation VR2 titles. Arguably the biggest announcement is that Capcom is developing a Resident Evil Village update that will enable PS VR2 support. The game was released in May last year and was generally well-received by both players and critics, winning several Game of the Year awards. Ethan Winters can now dual-wield weapons, with the gameplay in the trailer showing him using a shotgun and a pistol simultaneously....

Rockstar confirmed a new GTA game was in the works earlier this year. This was reiterated and slightly expanded upon during its parent company’s latest financial results call, during which Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed the game would have a very high bar. “With development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases,” Zelnick said....

Hardware leaker @kopite7kimi, shared a tweet yesterday revealing specifications of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4060 Ti. One of the highlights listed is the use of a short PCB on the 4060 Ti reference design, suggesting the GPU could use compact cooling solutions. If true, the 4060 Ti has a good chance of becoming Nvidia’s first normal sized graphics card being able to fit in cases where the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 cards cannot....

Ultraportables tend to be fairly slow, so I usually start by testing some older games. For several years, these sorts of machines couldn’t even hit 60 FPS in Tomb Raider, a game from 2013, at 720p with the lowest possible settings. These days, the Core i7-8550U hits 93 FPS at these settings, but the Ryzen 5 2500U pulls ahead by a decent 26 percent. You can quite easily play this game at 1080p though....

The Samsung 830 Series 512GB delivered average performance taking 5.3 seconds to complete the multi-tasking test. It matched the performance of the Crucial m4 256GB. The Adobe Photoshop CS4 load time performance was on par with other great SSDs. Our game load level test had the Samsung 830 Series 512GB falling slightly behind the older 470 Series drive, certainly an undesirable result. With a load time of 17.4 seconds the 830 Series 512GB was 39% slower than the OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 240GB....

The 840 Pro delivered an impressive 30.3MB/s in PCmark 7’s importing pictures test, which works out to a 6% lead over the 830 and Vertex 4. The 840 Pro provided mediocre results in the video editing test as its 22.8MB/s throughput barely outdid the 830’s 22.5MB/s results. The 840 Pro’s performance in the starting applications test was remarkable as it managed a throughput of 64.1MB/s, 41% faster than the 830 and 10% faster than the Intel SSD 520 Series, which was previously the fastest SSD we recorded here....

In 2016, Samsung and other producers began manufacturing the successor to the fast (but flawed) high-bandwidth memory (HBM) modules. High-bandwidth memory 2 (HBM2) seemingly fixed all the issues with the previous generation, increasing capacity, speeds, and bandwidth. Unfortunately, HBM2 was never significantly successful in the desktop graphics card market. Fury and Vega lines of cards utilized HBM and HBM2, respectively. Sadly, each flopped, and AMD reverted to GDDR6 memory again, starting with the RX 5000 lineup....

Samsung’s fingerprint sensor, called S3B512C, adds a new layer of security when combined with a security chip and secure processor. It’s mainly meant for payment cards, but Samsung says it can also work for other kinds of authentication like employee IDs or membership cards. The authentication tech should allow users to use their cards without entering their PIN. Samsung calls this the world’s first security chip that reads fingerprint information....

AMD’s Together We Advance_Gaming livestream, which you can watch in its entirety here, focused heavily on the 8K capabilities of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX. Illustrating the benefits of DisplayPort 2.1, Team red showed off graphs claiming the card can hit 96 fps@8K in the next Assassin’s Creed Valhalla expansion, though the caveat is that it is using FSR, not natively. With an 8K ultrawide display, that figure reaches 190 fps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2....

When copying data on disk the Samsung T3 can duplicate large files at 168MB/s or almost 80% faster than some of the snappiest thumb drives we have seen. This was roughly the same performance seen from the T1. The T3 1TB model was just 9MB/s slower than the T1 500GB in our game copy test so it is fair to say performance is much the same here. Just 5MB/s slower than the T1, the T3 continued to perform well in our copy tests, being 120% faster than the fastest thumb drives we have tested with our program data....

As expected the sequential read performance of the new Samsung T3 is virtually the same as the T1 at a little over 400MB/s. The T3 also managed to break the 400MB/s barrier in the sequential write test, whereas the T1 fell short by 15MB/s. The T3 sustained 378MB/s in the random 512K read test making it 10MB/s faster than the T1 and 91% faster than the Patriot Supersonic Magnum....

Again we see that like all modern SATA SSDs, the Samsung’s 2TB 850 Evo has no trouble saturating the SATA 6Gb/s bus when measuring sequential performance. The 850 Evo 2TB’s 4K-64 thread performance was strong for a SATA drive as it managed 378MB/s. Its 4K-64 thread write performance wasn’t as strong as its read result but the 850 Evo 2TB still managed to roughly match the performance of the 850 Pro....

Who said traditional magnetic hard disks are dead? Certainly not Seagate, one of the few companies still trying to innovate a technology that ruled the storage world in the ages before SSDs and NAND Flash memory chips. The Fremont, California-based corporation is expanding its HDD offering for the enterprise market, introducing six new Mach.2 units. The HDDs are the fastest hard disks currently available. Seagate describes Mach.2 as the first multi-actuator HDD tech, a solution to increase performance by “enabling parallelism of data flows in and out of a single hard drive....

A report from Google’s Threat Analysis Team describes how Italian company RCS Labs distributes its Hermit spyware on behalf of clients which include national governments. It aligns with Lookout Threat Lab’s report from earlier this month. Attackers distribute Hermit through SMS links leading to fake web pages impersonating real companies, like a Facebook account recovery page or a support page for Chinese tech company Oppo. The pages might ask users to download apps that deliver the spyware....
