The Fortress FT03’s impeccable thermal dissipation is also a rarity among microATX cases. Its cooling capacity far exceeds that of our much-loved Lian-Li Mini Q PC-V354. In terms of acoustics, the FT03 is not completely silent but it’s very quiet, similar to the Lian-Li case which we find more than adequate. Besides having a leg up in terms of sheer functionality and performance, the FT03’s aesthetics have a mass appeal....
As would be expected, with its fans set to their lowest setting the Mammoth MM01 isn’t the best performer, though it did keep temperatures well within safe tolerances so we can’t fault it for that. With the case fans spun all the way up, the CPU and GPU got cooler but the chassis operating volume was unbearable unfortunately. It seems there is no middle ground between low and high either....
The GTX 1060 3GB averaged 70fps at 1080p in The Witcher 3, just 4% slower than the 6GB model. That said, the minimum frame rate did dip 11% lower, leaving the 3GB GTX 1060 with comparable results to the R9 390X in this title. This time the 3GB model was 6% slower when comparing average frame rates. However, it was the minimum frame rate which fell by 14% that caused the most trouble for the 3GB model....
The above PCmark Vantage results are taken from the HDD suite, and as you can see the four tests that we recorded show similar performance trends. The Corsair P Series 128GB SSD matched the OCZ Summit, and both Samsung based SSDs delivered excellent results in the PCmark Vantage benchmark. The OCZ Vertex Turbo provided virtually the same results as the original, and in fact all the Indilinx Barefoot SSDs delivered pretty much the same results in these tests, including the OCZ Agility....
The Radeon HD 5670 is now able to provide a minimum frame rate of 31fps, while the Radeon HD 4870, which just scraped over the line using the ultra preset, provided a minimum frame rate of 44fps. The vast majority of the graphics cards tested were able to deliver playable performance at 1920x1200 using the high quality preset.

Because of the nature of Meltdown and Spectre, the patches have to come at the OS level, and there’s a possibility of performance loss. On the upside for consumers, desktop computing and gaming may not be as affected as other intensive tasks more commonly seen in server and database applications. Update: Following up to our initial testing (this article), we’re looking deeper into the matter by testing a patched desktop system for both Meltdown (OS-level patch) and Spectre (firmware/BIOS update)....
The R7 360 averaged a mere 21fps at 1080p in Assassin’s Creed Unity, 9% slower than the GTX 750 Ti’s 23fps. The R7 370 was also 6% slower than the GTX 950, though both delivered acceptable performance with over 30fps. The R9 380 matched the GTX 960 with 45fps, while the R9 390 and GTX 970 also delivered the same 71fps. Moving to 1600p we find that the R9 390X is just 2% slower than the GTX 980 which equates to a 1fps difference....
Sleeping Dogs is a particularly GPU-intensive game and yet we were able to play at 1920x1200 using the maximum in-game quality settings with a R7 265 at 30fps. The GTX 750 and GTX 750 Ti along with the R7 260X will all require lower settings in order to deliver playable performance. The R9 280 and GTX 760 both delivered highly playable performance, though the Radeon was 2% faster. The R9 290 was 21% faster than the GTX 770, while the R9 290X was 3% faster than the GTX 970....

Time for some games. I’ve tested nine titles in total and we’re going to start with Ashes of the Singularity results, everyone’s favorite synthetic gaming benchmark. This game heavily utilizes the CPU and here we see the 2200G offering 18% more performance than the G5400 and almost 30% more once overclocked – those are some huge gains with the GTX 1070. Assassin’s Creed Origins is a game that demands at least a quad-core and ideally you really want a quad-core with SMT or HT support....

The Crucial MX100 series provided average to weak performance when measuring 1K, 2K, 8K and 32K data compared to high-end SSDs such as the Samsung SSD 840 Pro and SanDisk Extreme II. That said, the 128K results were strong, but there certainly isn’t any evidence here as to why the application performance was so good. When measuring write performance the MX100 512GB model did exceptionally well and was by far the fastest SSD when measuring 8K data, though 256GB model also showed well here so perhaps this was part of the key to that superior application performance....

Interestingly when testing with Far Cry Primal we see almost no difference between the air-cooled Vega 64 and Vega 56. For that reason the liquid-cooled version was 16% faster but even so only managed to match the MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X. Given how well the RX 580 does compared to the GTX 1060 in this title you have to think some driver works needs to be done here....
Nintendo’s latest financial results state that the new Switch OLED got off to a “good start” following its launch last October, selling 10.67 million units in Q3, which Nintendo classes as October to December. That brings the hybrid machine’s total sales to 103.54 million since it launched in 2017. It means the Switch has now surpassed the Wii’s lifetime sales of 101.63 million to become Nintendo’s best-selling home console of all time....
