At idle, the HIS R9 290X Hybrid IceQ configuration consumed a few watts more than normal, perhaps due to the water pump.
The HIS R9 290X Hybrid IceQ allowed for a system consumption of 353 watts without overclock, which was 14% more than a standard R9 290X. That makes sense as we saw roughly 14% more performance. Compared to the GTX 980, the R9 290X Hybrid IceQ consumed almost 30% more power when testing with BioShock Infinite.
This time the overclocked HIS R9 290X Hybrid IceQ consumed 12% more power than a standard R9 290X and again almost 30% more power than the GTX 980.
The HIS R9 290X Hybrid IceQ chugged 20% more than the standard edition in Tomb Raider with a total system consumption of 378 watts, which is also 35% more than the GTX 980 used.
With our custom overclock in place the HIS Radeon R9 290X Hybrid IceQ 4GB operated at 80 degrees under full load. That sounds quite hot but given the overclock that is a good result for an R9 290X and more importantly the card was near silent. Still when compared to air-cooled GTX 980 graphics cards such as the Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Gaming the R9 290X Hybrid IceQ 4GB simply cannot compete.
