The human brain is comprised of more than 100 billion neurons with north of 1,000 trillion synapses. Each neuron is capable of both processing and storing data, making them far more efficient than the architecture found in traditional computers. The proof-of-concept memristor was built on a micro-scale and is about the size of a human hair. Lead researcher Feng Zhao tested the honey memristors’ switching speeds and found them to be comparable to human synapses (100ns on and 500ns off)....

Sources familiar with the matter recently told Video Games Chronicle that Sony has moved the project to an unnamed first-party studio in Europe. It was first reported in October that Lucid Games had been given the nod to develop the revival, and that it might utilize a free-to-play model in the image of Destruction All-Stars. Sony’s motivation behind the move is unclear, although one person suggested it might have to do with the poor reception of Destruction All-Stars....

Curio launched in 2020 and dropped its first NFTs in February 2021. The service allows users to create, mint, market and sell NFTs. To date, Curio has released more than 75,000 NFTs in collaboration with leading music, film and television brands. The company’s co-founder and co-FEO, Ben Arnon, previously worked at UMG. NFTs have been around since mid-2014 but didn’t really enter the mainstream lexicon until around 2020. In short, they use the blockchain to prove ownership, validity and scarcity of digital assets....

In a recent interview with Edge magazine (paywalled, via ComicBook), Valve boss Gabe Newell said one of their main concerns with the Steam Deck was pricing. “We thought the entry price was going to be the critical factor but it turns out that far and away the most popular SKU is the most expensive one,” Newell noted. When you enter the BIOS you’ll see a large picture of the board that acts as a 3D menu letting you target sections of the motherboard for tuning. It’s a pretty cool idea, but probably too clumsy for advanced users who just want to get in and out of the settings quickly. If you skip past this menu by clicking advanced, the next time you enter the BIOS you will be taken directly to the advanced menu (you can make the interactive image reappear with F1)....

The power consumption results aren’t necessarily that surprising, though they are a little disappointing. Although the A10-5800K is more efficient than the A8-3850 – consuming 4 watts less while being clocked 31% higher – Trinity still uses considerably more power than Ivy Bridge. AMD’s new arrival produces a total system consumption of 116 watts, whereas as the Core i3-3220-equipped machine consumed just 61 watts under load. In other words, the A10-5800K consumed about 90% more power....

At the same time that AMD is beginning to deliver on a years-long promise of single-chip PC gaming, its effort toward Crossfiring integrated graphics with discrete graphics is finally maturing. The company first touted ‘Dual Graphics’ with its first Lynx-based APUs back in 2011, but it was largely dismissed due to Crossfire’s poor frame time performance and that remained the case with 2012’s Virgo/Trinity APUs. By the time 2013’s Richland APUs landed, AMD was working to improve its frame pacing performance through driver updates and with the arrival of Kaveri, we’re starting to see solid Crossfire performance that isn’t plagued by frames being dropped and or chopped off....

In Far Cry 2, the F1A75-V managed to match the average frame rate of the Phenom II X6 1100T/890FX configuration, while the A75-UD4H and Extreme6 were two and four frames behind on average. All of the A75 motherboards outperformed the Phenom II setup in Dirt 3, though the F1A75-V Pro remained ahead of the pack.

When testing with PCmark Vantage the results were surprising as the Phenom II X4 965 overtook the Core i7 940, making it the fastest tested processor. This also made the Phenom II X4 965 considerably faster than the Core 2 Quad Q9650, while it was 6% faster than the Phenom II X4 955. The Phenom II X4 965 did little to improve the gaming performance score produced by the Phenom II X4 955, though that came as little surprise given that the 955 was no faster than the 940....

King Arthur II is a new and highly demanding game when run in the DX11 mode with all the visuals set to their maximum setting. Here the Radeon HD 7870 spat out just 18fps at 2560x1600 which was enough to match the GeForce GTX 580 and beat the GTX 570 by a 29% margin. The Radeon HD 7850 also did well with 16fps, making it 14% faster than the GeForce GTX 570 and 33% faster than the GTX 560 Ti....

When testing Hard Reset at 2560x1600, the HD 7970 churned out 42% more frames than its predecessor 16% more than Nvidia’s equivalent. Furthermore, it was 5% faster than the HD 6990 and only 10% slower than the GTX 590.

The Radeon HD 7990 is the fastest graphics card we have tested in Battlefield 3 at 2560x1600 as it just managed to outpace the GeForce GTX 690, beating it by a 4% margin. The 7990 was also faster than the 7970 GHz Edition Crossfire configuration which was surprising. When compared to the GeForce GTX Titan the 7990 was 39% faster, while it crushed the GTX 680 by a 96% margin and the 7970 by a 101% margin....

Although the performance and power consumption is virtually identical to that of two 7970 GHz Edition cards, the design of the Radeon HD 7990 makes the combination much cooler and quieter. Also on the upside, a single card means you only need to occupy a single PCI Express x16 slot, making the Micro ATX form factor a possible option on the handful of cases that will accommodate such a truly massive graphics card....

AMD’s Ryzen 9 5950X launched with a $799 MSRP back in November. That steep price tag was backed by the kind of performance that made it our Best Value for Productivity winner in the Best CPUs list. It shared the honors with the Core i7-12700K, which we said is more value-orientated, but that may no longer be as clear-cut now that team red’s chip has been discounted. For those who prefer team blue, Newegg is also discounting the Core i9-12900K by $14....
