Nvidia is launching its new RTX 40 series mobile GPUs next month, however the February 8 launch only consists of the top RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 laptops. The rest of the lineup including the RTX 4070, 4060 and 4050 will arrive a few weeks later on February 22nd. Nvidia’s RTX 4090 mobile GPU is the flagship SKU this generation, set to replace the RTX 3080 Ti, it will come with 9728 CUDA cores, and 16GB of GDDR6 operating on a 256-bit bus....

The OCZ Vector took just 95 seconds to install Red Orchestra 2, which is the fastest time we have been able to install this game to date. This was a 2 second improvement over the Samsung SSD 840 Pro and 4 seconds faster than the Vertex 4. The OCZ Vector also performed well in our virus scan test, though with a time of 43 seconds it did tie with the top four drives, which include the Samsung SSD 840 Pro, Intel SSD 520 Series, Kingston HyperX 3K and Crucial m4....

The OCZ Vertex 2 Pro 100GB performed in much the same way after we ran the HD Tach full disk benchmark as it does support the TRIM function and it appears to work well. The OCZ Vertex 2 Pro is off to an impressive start with a 13% performance increase over the original Vertex when conducting our 6GB ISO file copy test. With a throughput of 84MB/s the Vertex 2 Pro is the fastest SSD we have seen taking just 72 seconds to complete the task....

Despite closely matching the Vector drives in our application tests and beating them in the copy tests, the OCZ Vertex 450 256GB was slightly slower in our first CrystalDiskMark synthetic test. With a throughput of 467.1MB/s it was around 6% slower than the 499.2MB/s transfer speed of the Vector 256GB. Despite being slower in the sequential read test the OCZ Vertex 450 256GB was able to match the Vector 256GB in the sequential write test....

The difference in available memory comes not only from the ~7% spare area you get from the GB to GiB conversion for moving data around, but also because SandForce specifies an additional 20% flash be set aside for its DuraWrite technology, which is designed to reduce write amplification and extend endurance. Once formatted the drive only has 93.1GB of usable space. SandForce claims the loss is unavoidable and that this method will eventually have to be adopted by all future solid state drives....

Unlike with consoles, a game from 1995 may work on modern PCs just fine. In this article, we are looking specifically at games that are still fun to play, ten or more years old, and are the best of their style in their series (e.g. Civilization 4 is not considered, because Civilization 5 was better; Fallout 2 is considered, because Fallout 3 and 4 looked and felt quite different). We’ve also considered remasters of games that fit that description....

Before wrapping things up, let’s see how the Ryzen 3 and 5 CPUs compare to the 7700K once overclocked. The 1300X has been replaced with the overclocked R3 1200 at 4GHz while the Core i5-7400 has been replaced with the Sandy Bridge Core i5-2500K at 4.4GHz. The Ryzen 5 1400 is now also at 4GHz while the 7700K has been left untouched and of course so too has the locked Pentium G4560....

A few months after releasing its $1,000 heavyweight, Nvidia unveiled a slightly cut down version as the GTX 780, which still features 7.1 billion transistors and a 384-bit bus though fewer stream processors and TAUs – changes that made the card around 14% slower and 35% cheaper than the GTX Titan. Traditionally, AMD and Nvidia board partners have boosted the performance of most GPUs by 5-10% via overclocking, so we fully expected one of them to take a stab at closing the meager 14% gap separating the GTX 780 and Titan....

According to recently filed European patents, Apple has ideas for at least three new game controllers specifically designed for Apple products. The first style is similar to a standalone gamepad, as you would find for a console machine. The second could be likened to Nintendo’s JoyCons for the Switch. The third has a more foldable Game Boy Advanced design. Style #1, as Apple labels it in the patent, is relatively unremarkable in design....

With this sort of performance, the Momentum 43 would be well suited to running at 120 Hz, but unfortunately we’re capped to just 60 Hz. Input lag isn’t as fantastic with the Momentum 43. Using our standard test conditions, which includes the display in a calibrated state running over DisplayPort at a native resolution with the low input lag mode enabled, I measured lag of approximately 34 ms, and you can add on another 10-15ms when switching the low input lag mode off....

The streaming media service/media player sent an email out to users earlier today (August 24) informing them of the intrusion. Plex does emphasize that all passwords were hashed and secured in accordance with its best practices, but it still recommends users reset them out of an abundance of caution and sign out of all their devices. Plex says changing the password is a requirement, though some users say they aren’t being forced into this action—at least not yet....

Filling up the Plextor M6e reduced performance by 40MB/s while the M6S and M6M saw virtually no performance impact once full. This time there was no performance dip with the M6e full and we saw much the same from the M6S and M6M. The M6e dropped 20MB/s here while the performance reduction of the M6S and M6M was far less significant. As expected, CrystalDiskMark’s sequential read performance was unchanged as a full drive should only dent write performance....

Atto Disk Benchmark’s read test offered weird numbers that we can’t explain. Seagate’s drives have performed much better than the WD Red in all previous tests, but they turned in suspiciously low numbers here. We don’t know why this is but we have reconfigured the HS-210 twice to confirm the results. Seagate’s NAS drives struggled in Atto Disk Benchmark again, delivering the weakest 2K, 8K and 32K performance of all the devices tested....

A security statement released by the storage appliance provider on Friday issued very clear instruction to QNAP NAS users: take immediate action to secure your network appliances or take them offline. The attacks, which appear to indiscriminately target any network device exposed to the Internet, pose the most risk to devices with internet connectivity but little to no protection in place. QNAP users with the ability to access and secure their devices can verify whether their device is exposed to the internet using the QNAP Security Counselor....

Today we’re revisiting this battle in clearer detail as we’ve been recommending AMD’s RX 570 as the best budget graphics card for months, but have been doing so without a full comparison update to its nearest competitor, the GTX 1050 Ti, so let’s address that. In what may be the last GPU shootout we put together before Navi arrives, today we have a 38 game benchmark covering 1440p and 4K resolutions. But before we jump into the benchmarks, a quick back story… The AMD Radeon VII was released on February 7th and what you see is what you get. Meaning you can buy it from Sapphire, Asrock, XFX, MSI, Asus, Gigabyte or PowerColor, but they’re all the same AMD designed Radeon VII card, so that’s kind of boring....

Our review unit has paired the 5900HX with GeForce RTX 3060 graphics and a 1080p display with a 144Hz refresh rate. It will set you back $1,799, and it’s the most affordable of the three new Blades. The mid-range model keeps the 5900HX and upgrades to an RTX 3070 and a 165Hz display with a 1440p resolution for $2,199. While the priciest model deploys an RTX 3080 and costs $2,799....

With the 2018 Blade, Razer is fully on board with the thin bezel revolution. Previous models included 14-inch displays with fat bezels and it was a look that frustrated a lot of people. I mean why couldn’t they have just put a larger screen in the same chassis? With more competition from devices like the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin and Gigabyte Aero 15X, using the same design from the last few years just wasn’t going to cut it this time....

For 2018, Razer has updated the Blade Stealth, and while the design isn’t overhauled in this improved version, we are getting Kaby Lake Refresh CPUs inside. Here, the Core i7-8550U is standard, bringing significantly improved performance thanks to the jump to four cores and eight threads.
