On Wednesday night, a serious incident involving an undersea cable in the south of France caused widespread internet connectivity issues. At least three fiber cables were severed at 20:30 (UTC), making Internet access slower for users in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Cloud companies quickly worked to fix the backbone. According to a report by cloud security company Zscaler, the unexpected cable damage resulted in packet loss and a latency increase for websites and applications traversing the impacted paths....

On Wednesday, the official Dark Souls Twitter account announced that the PvP servers for all three Dark Souls games on PC won’t come back online until after its upcoming follow-up, Elden Ring. The developer doesn’t yet have a schedule for when Dark Souls will be back online. The announcement also says Elden Ring may also have the same vulnerability that led to the Dark Souls server shutdown. The developers are currently investigating the matter, but so far, Bandai Namco is still committed to launching Elden Ring on February 25....

With the ultra-quality settings enabled, high-end GPUs such as the GTX 980 and R9 290X had no trouble breaking 60fps at 1680x1050. Interestingly, the GTX 980 was just 7% faster than the R9 290X. For an average of 60fps, the GTX Titan, GTX 970 or HD 7970 GHz, R9 280X are required and if you can settle for just under that, the GTX 780 and HD 7970 will do the trick....

DuckDuckGo announced this week that Email Protection is available to everyone. This free email forwarding service will block hidden trackers and help users hide their email addresses. The closed Email Protection Beta launched last year and found that approximately 85% of beta testers’ emails contained hidden trackers. Trackers allow companies to collect sensitive information such as your location, what time the email was opened and what device was used. This information is then used for things like targeted ads or shared with a third party....

The incident began with an interview Palmer gave to Australian news site Crikey that covered a wide range of topics. At 1920x1200, Far Cry 3 demands quite a bit of horsepower, requiring the HD 7950 Boost to reach an average of 60fps. We’re impressed with the GTX 660 Ti, which averaged 61fps, while the GTX 680 matched the HD 7970 GHz Edition at 70fps and the standard 7970 stood at 67fps, just 2fps faster than the GTX 670. Below 60fps are the HD 7950 with 54fps and the 7870 with 53fps, after which there is a large drop in performance with the GTX 580 rendering 46fps and the GTX 660 offering 45fps....

Far Cry 6 arrived on October 7, 2021, following multiple delays related to the pandemic. This week, a federal grand jury indicted a Florida man for allegedly selling more than $1 billion of counterfeit Cisco networking equipment to several individuals, hospitals, schools, government agencies, and even the military. According to the Justice Department, 38-year-old Our “Ron” Aksoy was selling fake equipment from suppliers in China and Hong Kong. More specifically, he imported tens of thousands of devices through no less than 19 entities registered in New Jersey and Florida, collectively dubbed the “Pro Network....

Galaxy’s card matched the HD 6450 for the first time with a mere 5.6fps in PCMark7’s DX10 fill rate test. The HD 6570 was almost three times faster, rendering 14.3fps. The last PCmark7 results we’re including are from the DX10 GPU cloth test, in which the MDT GT 520 managed just 10.1fps, while the HD 6450 was more than twice as fast with 23.5fps.

GameStop is getting sued over privacy violations in California. According to a lawsuit filed Tuesday with the US Central District Court of California, the company has been “wiretapping” online customer service chats and selling the transcripts to a third-party marketing firm. Interestingly once again we see that the R9 Fury X Crossfire cards are no faster than the R9 295X2, this time when testing with Grand Theft Auto V. The overclocked GTX 980 Ti SLI cards were 10% faster than their non-overclocked configuration and 67% faster than the Fury X cards. Interestingly, the R9 Fury X cards fall behind the R9 295X2 when looking at frame time performance in Grand Theft Auto V....
