Most cruise ships already offer some form of satellite Internet service to guests, but connections are often unreliable, slow and expensive. With any luck, Starlink will remedy at least two of these three pain points. Royal Caribbean CEO Jason Liberty said it is the largest deployment of Starlink in the travel industry to date. A cruise vacation for some is just that – a rare opportunity to unplug from our hyperconnected lifestyle and relax as you traverse the open ocean and visit various destinations....

Hitman is another heavily CPU bound title and here the 8700K was around 15% faster on average, so a decent performance advantage for Intel then. Just Cause 3 is another old title that we’ve decided to include and here the 2700X competes very well with the 8700K when looking at the frame time performance. That said the Core i7 processor does slip away a little at 720p and 1080p when looking at the average frame rate....

Following up to that testing, today we’re going to compare how the Ryzen 9 3900X performs using the Wraith Prism RGB stock cooler against a big 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler from DeepCool, their new Castle 360EX. Our day-one testing showed that although the Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 7 3700X boosted better with improved cooling, we were only talking about a minor increase in frequency. Moreover, the marginal boost in clock speed had little to no impact on performance....

The Samsung Focus S is one of the two new Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones for AT&T that succeed last year’s Focus that was build around WP7. The second model is called Focus Flash (reviewed here), which is a more compact Windows Phone that is also more affordable. Of the two, the Focus S can be considered the spiritual successor to the Focus as it has a number of upmarket features over the smaller Focus Flash....

The use of an AMOLED display here does bring a range of benefits, including infinite contrast, blacks deeper than anything capable from an LCD, and amazing viewing angles. Due to the relatively low pixel density of this display compared to an AMOLED on a smartphone, Samsung has managed to use a standard RGB subpixel matrix rather than PenTile, which means you won’t see any fringe effects from a lower-than-normal subpixel resolution....

Working together with AMD, Samsung has completed the development of its 16-gigabit DDR5 DRAM chips, which will use the “industry’s first 12 nanometer-class process technology.” The Korean company describes these new chips as a “technological leap” for the industry; AMD helped with product evaluation for compatibility with Zen-based CPUs. Leveraging the latest DDR5 standard, Samsung explains, the new chips will unlock speeds of up to 7.2 gigabits per second (Gbps)....

For the most part, AS SSD Benchmark’s sequential read data looks pretty similar to CrystalDiskMark’s, though we saw a surprising leap in performance on the 250GB model with RAPID enabled. Again, we see that the real advantages to RAPID are recorded when measuring sequential write performance, but the Evo drives did exceptionally well even with the feature disabled. The random read 4K-64 thread performance was average for the Evo products and RAPID did nothing to improve their performance....

When it comes to sequential read performance the Samsung SSD 850 Evo was as good as any SATA SSD that we have tested. Achieving a throughput of 521MB/s meant that the 850 Evo was able to deliver similar performance to the SanDisk Extreme Pro. The sequential write performance was also very strong and again the Samsung SSD 850 Evo matched the SanDisk Extreme Pro. When it came to random 512K performance the Samsung SSD 850 Evo was only a fraction faster than the previous 840 Evo model....

Samsung has long been one of the leading developers of semiconductors and processors, including being the first foundry to produce 3nm chips for its mobile devices. The company beat out its biggest rival, TSMC, to the 3nm node, certainly not a small feat even for such a large fabricator. Every year, Samsung holds a Foundry Forum event, usually detailing plans and roadmaps for numerous Samsung devices and collaborations with other industries....

During a recent interview with Famitsu, Sega creative producer Yosuke Okunari said the company explored the possibility of creating a Saturn mini and a Dreamcast mini but decided against it for a couple of reasons. The team couldn’t simply reuse the internal hardware from the Genesis mini as it wasn’t powerful enough to run games from those more advanced consoles. And even if that door was open, semiconductor shortages would have severely limited production....

The 3GB GTX 1060 was 13% slower than the 6GB model at 1080p when running the Warhammer benchmark in DX12. Using the older DX11 API meant that the 3GB model was just 6% slower, which is the kind of performance margin Nvidia suggested we would see. At 1440p the 3GB model was 9% slower when testing in DX12 and 7% slower for DX11. The Doom results are mixed. Testing with OpenGL we get the exact same 117fps average on the 3GB card as we did with the 6GB card....

Tom’s Hardware recently inspected the recommended wattage requirements for various AIB partners and found a range of suggestions. Several cards including the Galax RTX 4090 SG / ST, the Inno3D RTX 4090 X3 OC iChill Black and the PNY RTX 4090 Verto Epic-X call for an 850W power supply which mirrors Nvidia’s guidance. Three others – the Asus RTX 4090 ROG Strix OC, the Gigabyte Aorus RTX 4090 Master and the Zotac RTX 4090 AMP Extreme / Trinity – should be paired with a 1,000 watt power supply at minimum....

The new Xperia X series may not carry the same name as its predecessor, the Xperia Z, but there’s no mistaking these products for a revolutionary change. I’ve been testing the the top-end Xperia X Performance for a few weeks now and I’ve found it to be remarkably similar to the Xperia Z5 that preceded it. Considering the Z5 was the sixth derivation of the 3-year-old Xperia Z, it’s easy to feel this design is getting stale....

Launches will take place at dawn so passengers can watch the Sun rise as they ascend. Rather than a quick jaunt to space and back, passengers will glide at the edge of space above 99 percent of the Earth’s atmosphere. As part of Starlink’s new pilot program for users in mainland France, the company’s monthly service fee is being essentially halved, going down from €99/mo to €50/mo. While this change - which is now in effect - has been made to add as many users onto the network as possible, Starlink has also announced an upcoming Fair Usage Policy to prevent network congestion and maintain service quality. This policy, which will be implemented in October, is designed to give priority access to customers with a monthly data consumption of less than 250GB....

The DS1512+ and DS1511+ left a similar trail up Atto Disk Benchmark’s graph. The 1K and 2K read tests were nearly identical, but the older unit pulled away when measuring 8K and 32K data performance. Both maxed out at around 125-130MB/s in the 128K test. Compared to Thecus’ N7700PRO, the DS1512+ was slower out of the gate but eventually took the lead. When measuring writes, the DS1512+ and DS1511+ provided virtually indistinguishable performance until the 32K and 128K benchmarks, where the newer drive slipped behind....

For the purpose of this review, we installed four Western Digital Blue 500GB hard drives. To really get your money’s worth, we’d recommend opting for 2TB or even 3TB drives, giving a total capacity of 10TB or 15TB. The DiskStation Assistant software comes on a CD, though the latest version as of writing (4.0-2198) can also be downloaded from Synology’s website. This build lets you create the Synology Hybrid RAID volume at the first-time DSM installation on your new DiskStation....

There are few desktop 12-bay desktop NAS products on the market. In fact, the only ones we’re aware of are made by Synology, and with the old DS2411+ now being phased out, the last choice consumers have is the DS2413+. There are many eight-bay options to choose from, but again almost all are limited to eight drives except the DS1812+, which can be scaled up to 18 drives with the help of two DX513 modules....

Tesla writes that the company started transitioning to Tesla Vision by removing radar from the Model 3 and Model Y last year, with the Model S and Model X following in 2022. The EV giant claims that compared to radar-equipped vehicles, Model 3 and Model Y cars with Tesla Vision have either maintained or improved their active safety ratings in the US and Europe. They also perform better in pedestrian automatic emergency braking (AEB) intervention....

The FX-8320E can be pushed well beyond its starting frequencies as we hit 15% over the maximum turbo boost and 44% over the base clock. However, as substantial as that may sound, it only produced 16% more performance in our application tests and 7% in our encoding and gaming benchmarks, which isn’t enough to best Intel’s offerings. When gaming with the FX-8320E clocked at 4.6GHz it was still slower than the stock Core i3-4360 on average in the four games that we tested and Intel’s i3 was also quicker in HandBrake and TMPGEnc Video Master Works....
