Turning the resolution up to 2560x1440 sees most of the mainstream-range graphics cards fall below our self-imposed 40fps minimum. While models such as the GeForce GTX 960 do provide a playable experience, the 970 is worlds better at this resolution. It is clear for now that Nvidia has an advantage in this title as the 970 can be seen crushing the 390 and even the 390X, while the 980 Ti enjoyed a strong lead over the Fury X....
Fans of the original game are no doubt excited about the recent release of Dragon Age II. Whereas many games these days are designed for console gaming and then ported to PC, Dragon Age II was initially designed for the PC platform. At the same time, BioWare has been adamant to assert the console versions of the title are not simply ports of the PC version, either. Given our ability to fit out PCs with vastly superior hardware, it pays off when playing Dragon Age II....
Bandai Namco during a Q&A session with investors late last year said they anticipated selling four million copies of the game within the first five weeks of launch. That would have been impressive considering Dark Souls III shipped around three million copies in roughly the same period of time, but Elden Ring smashed all expectations. Developer FromSoftware has revealed that since the game’s launch on February 25, more than 12 million copies have been sold worldwide including more than a million in Japan alone (through March 14, 2022)....

The FBI cyber division’s alert states that cybercriminals have been contacting US investors and claiming to offer legitimate crypto investment services. The scam involves convincing someone to download a fraudulent mobile investment app that’s used to steal victims’ crypto. The apps use the names, logos, and other identifying features of real financial institutions to make them appear more legitimate. Victims then deposit crypto into wallets associated with their accounts via the apps....
As Mozilla seeks out new revenue streams, development on Firefox continues in an effort to make the open source browser a solid alternative to Google Chrome and the ubiquitous Chromium layout engine. Firefox 108.0 brings a small list of new features. Import maps, which allow web pages to control the behavior of JavaScript imports, are now enabled by default. The update also introduces support for Efficiency Mode in Windows 11 to make processes for background tabs use less resources and energy, which could be useful for laptop....

A pair of new workflow tools from two developers has allowed a modest FPGA chip to achieve stunning efficiency gains over a conventional x86 processor. The results could open new paths for energy-efficient operations across several industries. The demonstration involved a game depicting little more than a shiny ball bouncing across a checkerboard surface. However, the game utilized real-time ray tracing, something no one would expect a medium-sized FPGA chip to handle....
For the lowest acceptable performance, we want the minimum frame rate at or above 30fps. The slowest graphics cards to achieve this include the Radeon HD 7870, 270X, RX 460 as well as the GeForce GTX 760 and 950. For a smoother 40fps minimum, cards including the GTX 960, 680 and HD 7970 GHz, R9 280X and R9 285 will suffice at 1080p. Fortunately, most modern and even many old GPUs can push over 60fps at 1080p....
Pushing over 60 fps at all times in Battlefield 1 isn’t particularly difficult with modern mid-range hardware which speaks to how well this games optimized. Even with the ultra quality settings in play the R9 390 spat out over 80 fps on average at 1080p. Moving to 1440p we still saw an average of over 60 fps and once overclocked the R9 390 and GTX 970 delivered very similar performance....
We got our first look at Nvidia’s GTX 980 Ti reference card almost two months ago and have yet to check out a board partner’s production model. Compared to reference designs by Nvidia and AMD, their partners usually come up with creations that run cooler and quieter. A perfect example of this is Gainward’s GTX 980 Ti “Golden Sample”, which features a 15% factory overclock that Gainward says provides 11% more performance on average....

Local media (per The Register) claim Intel will receive 6.8 billion euros ($7.15 billion) in subsidies to build a cutting-edge campus in Magdeburg. Intel announced the colossal project in March and pegged the initial cost at no less than 17 billion euros. The German subsidy will cover roughly 40 percent of the total cost. Intel’s expansion in the region will go a long way to helping the EU reduce its reliance on chip imports....

Not only does X58 have exclusive support for hexa-core processors, but it’s better equipped to handle multi-GPU configurations. Without the aid of Nvidia’s NF200 chip, Intel’s new Z68 and P67 motherboards can only run two graphics cards in an x8/x8 setup. Because of those reasons, Gigabyte originally released its elite G1.Killer boards (the G1.Guerrilla, G1.Sniper and G1.Assasin) for LGA1366. Naturally, this prompted requests for LGA1155 versions of Gigabyte’s premium boards because the newer platform supports Sandy Bridge, namely the Core i5-2600K and i7-2600K CPUs....
Dirt 3 is starting to show its age as the GTX 780 Ti delivered 105.4fps at 2560x1600 for 23% better results than the GTX 780, 10% faster than the R9 290X and 14% faster than the R9 290. Of course, Gigabyte’s GTX 780 Ti OC was even faster at 118.2fps, 38% quicker than the GTX 780 and 24% faster than the R9 290X, while the company’s GHz Edition rendered 103....
On average, the GTX 780 Ti was 24% faster than the GTX 780 and 9% faster than the R9 290X and those margins jumped to 34% and 18% with Gigabyte’s GTX 780 Ti OC. The company’s factory-overclocked card was also 8% faster than a standard GTX 780 Ti along with outclassing dual-GPU products from both camps when playing titles including Tomb Raider and Metro: Last Light at 2560x1600. As incredible as those results are, Gigabyte’s GTX 780 Ti OC doesn’t entirely overshadow the GTX 780 GHz Edition....
Intel, TSMC, and Samsung are pouring billions into ambitious expansion projects. They plan to build factories in multiple regions to create a more resilient global supply chain for advanced semiconductors, and their eyes are set on the US, Japan, and the EU. Companies like Foxconn and mining giant Vedanta are also considering India, but those ambitions rely much more heavily on government subsidies. According to a Bloomberg report, interest in the EU as a location for semiconductor manufacturing is growing among chipmakers....
