The first report of E3 2022’s cancellation came in a tweet from Razer PR lead Will Powers, who said he received an email confirming it. Soon after, the ESA notified Axios’s Stephen Totilo and Variety that it axed this year’s show. The organization plans to use the extra time to organize an in-person and digital E3 in the summer of 2023. In January, the ESA canceled this year’s in-person event due to the emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19....

eIDAS, or “electronic IDentification, Authentication and trust Services,” is the set of rules adopted in Europe to enable secure online transactions across the European single market. Every member state must adopt the eIDAS rules, and the same applies to organizations and companies that want to provide public digital services there. The European Council – one of the two legislative bodies of the EU – has recently adopted a new revision of eIDAS, mostly regarding a European Digital Identity Wallet to store personal information about European citizens in a government-issued app....

The FTW3 Black packs a massive 3.5-slot, triple-fan cooling system that pushes the card’s dimensions to 5.38 inches in height and 11.81 inches in length. The card features 10,752 cores with a boost clock of 1,860 MHz and 24GB of 384-bit GDDR6X memory, and comes equipped with an HDMI port and three DisplayPort connectors. Both Apple and Google were alerted to the issue after Meta researchers found more than 400 malicious apps across their respective app platforms. The apps in question provided users the option to log into or access an app’s additional features via their Facebook account. Once entered, the user’s credentials were stolen and used to provide unauthorized access to the victim’s data. The design, implementation, and user experience guides for including Facebook login functionality in a new app is openly available for developers in Facebook’s developer documentation....

Brendan Carr, a lawyer currently serving as a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), has returned to his favorite sport: bashing TikTok and calling for a tighter control on the Chinese-controlled app by the US government. At this point, Carr said, there is very little confidence about the company’s ability to properly handle US users’ data. Carr was appointed as a member of the FCC by Donald Trump in 2017, and he has been a vocal critic of the data collecting app for a while....

The suit states Kochava is, among other things, a location data broker that provides its customers massive amounts of precise geolocation data collected from consumers’ mobile devices. The records use timestamps and latitude and longitude values matched with unique mobile device identification numbers, so it’s not only possible to see where someone has been but also how long they were there. The Reg explains that Kochava gets its data from Android and iOS apps and websites that embed its tracker code....

Max Payne 3 is a game where the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition enjoyed a comfortable lead over the GeForce GTX 680. As you can see the Gainward GTX 770 Phantom was able to beat the 7970 GHz Edition by a slim 5% margin, while providing 10% more performance than the standard GTX 770. The Gainward GTX 770 Phantom was 8% faster than the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition when measuring frame time performance and 11% faster than the GTX 680....

At the time the GTX 970 was also much cheaper, but with recent AMD price cuts the R9 290 is now slightly more affordable than the GTX 970. With AMD’s pricing now in check, the R9 290 in Crossfire compares a surprisingly well against Nvidia’s newer GTX 970s in SLI, with the latter offering only 3% more performance on average. Scaling wasn’t an issue either as two GTX 970s were on average 86% faster than one....

Although we welcome SFF machines from industry heavyweights like Intel, the company’s NUC products have been grossly overpriced, initially starting around $400 for a complete build based on the Core i3. Even today, a barebones version of the i3 NUC system still costs almost $300, and that’s without memory, storage, Wi-Fi and an operating system, which could easily add a couple hundred bucks. This also means that the GeForce GTX 570 is fetching up to $100 more than some GeForce GTX 470 graphics cards. With such a premium, we are expecting big things from the new arrival. Based on Fermi’s third-generation Streaming Multiprocessor (SM) architecture, the GeForce GTX 570 boasts 480 CUDA cores, which is more than twice the shader power of the GT200 core used by the GeForce GTX 280/285. There are also 60 TAU (Texture Addressing Units) units, the same number used by the GeForce GTX 480, while the ROP (Raster Operations) have been decreased from 48 featured on the GTX 580 to just 40 as in the GeForce GTX 470....

The GTX Titan rendered an incredible 68fps at 2560x1600 in Battlefield 3, just 2% slower than the HD 7870 Crossfire duo and 6% slower than the GTX 660 Ti SLI combo while being 31% and 41% faster than the HD 7970 GHz Edition and GTX 680. Despite being beaten by multi-GPU setups in average frame rates, the Titan fared better than any other setup when measuring frame latencies, taking just 17....

Gigabyte’s product rendered over 40fps in Hard Reset’s benchmark with an average of 41fps – a 5% notch over the standard model, 8% over the GTX 580 and 7% under the HD 7970.

In what shouldn’t be a surprise, the 1440p Nexus 6P display delivers extremely sharp images and text. The difference between this resolution and a similar 1080p panel isn’t significant, but a keen eye will be able to spot the upgrade in font clarity in particular. I’m still not convinced that the upgrade in resolution and sharpness is worth the downgrade in brightness, performance and battery life, but 1440p displays have certainly been improving over the past year and a half, and the Nexus 6P’s display is undoubtedly crisp....

Part of that excellent hardware package is the display. With a pixel density exceeding 300 PPI and an aspect ratio close to 4:3, it makes for a great viewing experience. Reading text is a particular joy, but it’s also well suited to display imagery thanks to fantastic color performance. The aspect ratio isn’t as good for watching video, although it does make the tablet easier to hold and operate in both orientations....

Computational photography has come a long way, and nowadays it is prevalent in smartphones and post-processing software. Noise reduction is arguably one of the most valued tools, as even the best camera sensors are not exempt from image noise, especially when used in a darker environment. Google Research unveiled an exciting new technology that uses artificial intelligence to eliminate image noise from darker scenes, effectively allowing photographers to “see in the dark....

Enabling MSAAx4 saw the GTX 980 and R9 290X become almost 40% slower than they were when using FXAA. As a result, the GTX 980 averaged just 40fps and the R9 290X just 38fps at 2560x1600. In order to average 60fps plus, a pair of R9 290X or GTX 980 cards were required. MSAA isn’t really required at 3840x2160 though we wouldn’t go as far as to say you don’t need anti-aliasing as jaggies are still noticeable....

The game is still demanding when playing GTA V at 1080p with everything set to maximum except anti-aliasing and textures. Here we are using normal textures and FXAA with MSAA disabled. For an average of 60fps gamers will require a Radeon HD 7970 or GeForce GTX 680, though it’s possible to get by comfortably with the GTX 960 and HD 7950/R9 270X. Current-generation mid-range GPUs such as the R9 285 had no trouble delivering 60+ fps while the higher end GPUs were pushing 80+ fps....

The latest report from 3D Center, which has been collecting GPU price and availability data from German/Austrian retailers since January 2021, shows the average selling prices for the RTX 3000 series and Radeon RX 6000 line have both reached their lowest points. Click to expand Usually, anything selling over its MSRP isn’t news to celebrate, but it feels like forever since graphics cards were this close to their recommended retail prices....

It looks as though this trend will be repeated with the R9 390 and R9 390X as the vanilla 390 should be priced 15% cheaper while on paper it can’t be more than 9% slower and will likely be similar to the 5% we saw when comparing the R9 290X and R9 290. In fact, while the R9 290X was clocked slightly higher than the R9 290 this isn’t the case with the R9 390....
