While Network Attached Storage as a concept has been around for decades, it’s become more accessible and popular with home users and small businesses in the last decade. Essentially, a NAS is just a bare-bones computer with a large amount of storage and specialized software. You designate some files and folders that you want to be shared over your network, and then anyone can connect and access the files. Of course, you can put security restrictions in place to allow only certain people access to certain files, but that’s the general idea....

The new framework’s name (and, in some ways, concept) are a nod to another AI-based model known as Transformer. Originally introduced in 2017, Transformer is a novel neural network architecture with the ability to generate text by modeling and comparing other words in a sentence. The model has since been included in standard deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch. Just as Transformer uses language to predict potential outputs, Transframer uses context images with similar attributes in conjunction with a query annotation to create short videos....

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims Apple is already working on new models of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with the M2 SoC. Other than the new processor, they should be mostly the same as the current MacBook Pros of that size, iterating on their M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs with the M2 Pro and M2 Max. Compared with M1, benchmarks show the M2 achieving a modest 11 percent improvement in single-threaded performance, an 18 percent increase in multi-threaded performance, and an impressive 43 percent rise in graphics performance....

As MIT highlights, north of 90 percent of the world’s electricity is generated from heat sources like natural gas, coal and concentrated solar energy. For the better part of a century, steam turbines have been used to convert heat from these sources into electricity. On average, steam turbines are only able to reliably convert about 35 percent of a heat source into electricity. Even the most efficient heat engines ever made top out at around 60 percent efficiency....

Breaking it down further, Nintendo sold 1.32 million standard Switch consoles in the most recent quarter compared to 3.31 million in the year-ago quarter. The new Switch OLED model made up some of the deficit with 1.52 million units sold (the OLED model wasn’t available in the year-ago quarter). Sales of the Switch Lite fell more than 48 percent, from 1.14 million units last year to 0.59 million units. Lifetime Switch sales now sit north of 111 million units, which is good enough for fifth in all- time game system sales behind the PlayStation 2, the Nintendo DS, the Game Boy / Game Boy Color and the PS4....

We don’t yet know the full specifications of these phones, as Nokia plans to share them closer to launch. We do, however, have enough information to paint a picture of the target audience for each. Starting with the C-series phones, both handsets will come with a MediaTek Helio A22 SoC running Android 12 and packing 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage. The C100 will feature a 5.45-inch display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 4,000mAh battery....

Nvidia is making some pretty bold claims around DLSS 3, including its supposed ability to triple or even quadruple performance with the RTX 4090 relative to older Ampere graphics cards. On the flip side, we’ve seen DLSS 3 being described as a “fake frame generator” or some variation of that. The thinking being that DLSS 3 doesn’t actually generate what we would typically class as a “frame” while gaming, or at least a real frame....

The GeForce GTX 480 was much more impressive when testing with the new Metro 2033 game. Despite only rendering an average of 45fps at 1680x1050, the card was 15% faster than the Radeon HD 5870 and 33% faster than the old GeForce GTX 285. It was also 9% and 19% slower than the dual-GPU GeForce GTX 295 and Radeon HD 5970, respectively.

If we removed Far Cry 2 from the results, we would actually have the GTX 590 to be 2% slower than the Radeon HD 6990. It’s also interesting to note that a vast majority of the GTX 590’s losses were in DX11 titles: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (-15%), Metro 2033 (-20%), Battlefield Bad Company 2 (-9%), and Aliens vs. Predator (-10%). Besides its 46.3% lead in Far Cry 2, the single GPU GTX 580 was also 22....

And so for the last 12+ months the GTX 680 and the Radeon HD 7970 have been battling over the performance crown, forcing numerous price cuts and even a little overclocking from AMD to produce the 7970 GHz Edition. In the end AMD was able to undercut Nvidia on price, producing what we believe to be the better solution. Most recently however Nvidia showed what they could really do with the GK104 architecture by beefing it up with more CUDA cores, texture units and ROPs creating the GK110....

As a result we were only able to test half as many games as we normally would. Nevertheless we picked six flagship games, testing frame rate performance along average fps, so overall we were able to get a pretty good picture of what the GeForce GTX 780 is all about. On average we found the GeForce GTX 780 to be 24% faster than the GTX 680 and 16% faster than the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition when measuring frame rate performance....

The latest report from Statcounter shows that fewer than one in six desktop PCs worldwide use Windows 11. Windows 10 remains on almost three-quarters of PCs over a year after its successor launched. Windows 11 reached 15.44-percent penetration in the October 2022 report, increasing slightly under two percent since September. Windows 10 use fell by less than one percent in the same timeframe. Windows 7, which Microsoft no longer supports, still runs on 9....

The first test we ran using CrystalDiskMark measures sequential performance. Here the Agility EX performed slightly better than the Corsair P128, reaching 253MB/s and 193MB/s respectively for its read and write performance. OCZ’s newest drive was topped by the Vertex Turbo in the read performance test by a 2% margin, but it was also an impressive 30% faster when it came to write results. The Random 512KB test strongly favors the Agility EX as it managed to achieve a read throughput of 206MB/s, while the write results were also quite notable at 191MB/s....

The Vertex 3 is extremely fast to load Windows 7, clocking 8.8 seconds from an average of three runs. In fact, OCZ’s new drive didn’t let us see the Windows logo in full on the load screen – we just saw four dots, what a shame. For the application load test, we launch the following applications on Windows’ startup: Internet Explorer, Outlook 2007, Access 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Publisher 2007, Word 2007 and Photoshop CS4....

At 1440p the R7 260X and GTX 660 averaged around 40fps, and while this isn’t ideal performance, it is playable. For the much more desirable 60fps something like an old HD 7950 or GTX 680 will get the job done nicely, as will the R9 380 and GTX 960. Keep in mind that Overwatch is a competitive online first person shooter and we found a significant difference between playing at 60fps and say 90fps for example....

In this article, we want to cover the S-series product line in particular because the specifications for S-series processors are actually very similar to that of standard Intel CPUs. To determine the advantage of S-series CPUs we will first look at the official specifications differences between a couple of S-series processors and their standard counterparts then move on to our own testing and benchmarking to determine the actual performance, power draw, and thermal differences....

The Momentum 43 is $900, which puts it ~$250 to $300 more than your basic 43-inch 4K IPS SDR display that typically retails for $600 to $650. The HDR provided by the Momentum 43 is far from perfect, but it still will deliver a much better experience than those basic 43-inch displays so I’d say the higher price is worth it in that sense. However I’d really only recommend this monitor for those who want to use it for HDR gaming or movie playback....

AS SSD Benchmark shows similar sequential read performance to CrystalDiskMark, though the Plextor M6e didn’t reach 700MB/s this time. The sequential write performance is much the same as in CrystalDiskMark with the Plextor M6e beating the SATA SSDs while the M6S and M6M couldn’t quite keep pace with the other high-end 2.5" SATA SSDs. The Plextor M6e matched the OCZ Vector 150 in the 4K-64 thread read test with 381MB/s....

The next step requires you to run the Quick Setup Wizard and configure the TS-809 Pro Turbo NAS.
